Elf Mastery Blog
I just completed my exclusivity contract with Kindle Select and already I miss checking up daily on my KENP (pages read through the Kindle library). It was a satisfying experience to be able to watch as pages of my book were read. (Some days were harrowing, rather than satisfying.)
It turns out formatting for Smashwords is different than Kindle. Basically, I have to reformat the whole ebook. This involves going 'nuclear' on my file: removing all formatting. It was daunting at first but using the Smashwords' style guide has proven educational. Learning a lot about how to work in Microsoft Word more cleanly. A pain in the butt but I can see how it will pay off in the long term. Hopefully Smashwords' broad distribution will compensate for the loss of KENP on Kindle Select. Got my first set of paperbacks on a store bookshelf today! I am selling some books on consignment at Mosaic here in Kelowna, BC. I am thinking of checking with Chapters to see if I can do the same thing. The lady at Mosaic said I should advertise better that Piers Anthony reviewed the book, so I am looking at having some bookmarks made. Side note: I am starting to get lazier. It's becoming more difficult to focus on working. I think it's because, between online school and writing, I spend too much time alone. Socially that's fine, as I am an introvert, but I might be going crazy. This could either help or hinder the book I am currently working on.
