Kaanan: (KAY nun) A noppera-bo who serves as one of Bremnos' rebels.
Kath: One of the lesser infernal kingdoms and member of the Alliance of Achathorm. Ruled by Samiel.
Keiel: A forest region about two hundred miles south of Highwood. The Keiel elves, from Highwood originally, decided to return to their sylvan roots and return to the forest. Part of the motivation was unhappiness with the politics of Highwood and a desire to become more like the anarchic forest elves. The community consists of a network of villages linked by rope bridges through the treetops.
Kestl: (KESS ul) A city in the land of Giants. It is situated north of Varis, on the Kestl River.
Kick the Goblin: A children's rhyme sung by young elves. Its lyrics are rather cruel toward goblins. Kyla, like most elves, has grown up hearing the song so often she does not stop to consider its meaning.
Kildath, The: (KILL dath) A clearing in the Montgrelle Forest bearing a memorial to those fallen in the final battle of the Kildath clan. The Kildath was a mixed clan of minotaurs and centaurs whose leader was captured by orcs who allied with local trolls and ogres to defend themselves against retaliation. The orcs claimed the kidnapping was due only because the chief of the Kildath clan had murdered a band of orc merchants who had passed through their territory. The truth of the matter was never discovered. The elves who lived in the region, whose lives and homes were threatened in the fighting, sided with the Kildath to see an end to the war. Reinforcements by the orcs proved too strong and every elf in the final battle was killed, though the Kildath clan won with a mere dozen minotaurs and two centaurs left standing. This battle is the setting of the tale The Death of Emeri.
King Anphax Library: The Royal Library in High Haven, named after the King who famously collected the world's most important tomes and scrolls.
Kis: (KISS) One of Bremnos' Ophilim rebels.
Kulgoth Clan: A matriarchal clan of minotaurs. Considered the largest modern minotaur clan. Taxiarch Bremnos Aviremn hails from the Kulgoth clan.
Ky Montel: (KEE mon TEL) A centaur clan leader who lived at the time of the Great Expulsion. Ky Montel led the centaurs in the Bloodwar of Ky, and created and utilized the Disruptor of Momus.
Kyla Nim: The protagonist of the story. Kyla Nim was raised in the village of Aspengrove, in an isolated forest, with her parents and younger brother, Bit. As with most elves, she had no formal education as a child, as elves prefer their children learn by experiencing life in the forest: hunting, foraging, climbing, etc. Kyla, as the eldest child, was initially expected to take over her father's shoe business but decided she wanted more out of life. Her parents, seeing her high energy, diligence, and optimism, and Bit's lower ambition, decided it would in fact be better for Kyla to seek training for another career and train Bit in the family trade instead.
Though Kyla is about nineteen years old, she comes across as immature by human standards, due not only to her isolated upbringing and lack of education but also an elf tendency to be more curious and playful. She is, however, a diligent and fast learner. Though she is not especially gifted in academics she is very stubborn and determined when faced with a challenge, and will face an obstacle to the bitter end.
Kyla faces two major sources of frustration. First is that she doesn't excel at any skills, at least not those that are easily measured. She is a terrible fighter, not academically gifted, and her ability in the music and arts are barely above average. If Kyla wants to master a skill she needs to work very hard at it, whereas some of her peers, such as Saul, pick up new things with ease. Second, no one takes Kyla seriously when she comes up with a plan or solution to a problem. This often pushes her to act on her own, and tends to push her into trouble. People think Kyla is foolish, which she is to a degree, but a large part of her foolishness stems from her refusal to give up on an idea just because no one else believes in it.
Kyle Withers: A human boy that lives in the town of Whitehall. He works at the ice cream shop near the park downtown. A friendly boy in his late teens with sandy hair. His father is the local Sheriff.
